Martin Garrix, whose real name is Martijn Garritsen, born May 14, 1996 in Amstelveen, is a Dutch disc jockey, composer and music producer.

He made himself known worldwide with his title Animals, in 2013. Ranked in 2016 by the DJ Magazine as the best platinum player in the world shortly after the creation of his own label, he is very present on the world music scene by mixing during big festivals and component largely in studio.

Biography

Martijn Garritsen's passion for music appears early. He started playing the guitar at the age of six. In 2004, at the age of eight, he expressed his interest in the DJ trade after watching his compatriot Tiësto play on the Olympic Games in Athens. Martijn Garritsen is particularly excited about the Traffic track, which pushes him to download the specialized software FL Studio to start composing his own tracks. Martijn Garritsen finishes the Brood Herman Academy, a production school in Utrecht but will also follow a time of studies of sculpture and architecture3. At the age of fourteen, he is already a Ghost Producer and composes pieces for other disc jockeys. He also produces songs with his other GRX artist name, including Gamer with Bassjackers and Psycho with Yellow Claw and Cesqeaux in 2013, and Can not You See with Shermanology in 2014.

Beginnings and Animals (2012-2013)

Martin Garrix began his career in 2012 with ITSA, a single made with Sleazy Stereo. Next came Keygen, which he directed himself, and BFAM directed with Julian Jordan, another Spinnin 'Records artist. That same year, he won the SLAM trophy! FM DJ Talent. His remix of Your Body by Christina Aguilera appears on the deluxe version of the singer's Lotus album.

He released the following year the single Torrent with Sidney Samson on the Dutch label Musical Freedom, then Error 404 with Jay Hardway, and Just Some Loops with TV Noise.

Martin Garrix makes himself known internationally this year 2013 with the release of the single Animals which becomes a global success, ranking in the first places of the European rankings9. Soon he became the youngest artist to reach the number 1 spot on Beatport. Yet at this time, few people believe that this success will be sustainable. Later, he also remixed the Project T title of the duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike in collaboration with Sander van Doorn, title that reached the top of the charts on Beatport. The song is released in late September 2013. The DJ announced, following the success of his title Animals, do not wish to become a one-hit dude, which will be confirmed by a second success, Wizard, in collaboration with Jay Hardway. The title ranks 6th in the rankings in Belgium and 17th in the Netherlands. The track is played once, when Martin Garrix is personally invited by Tiësto to mix in his solo concert during the Amsterdam Dance Event 2013; Tiësto, and to a lesser extent Guetta, clearly support the young DJ. Martin Garrix is then ranked 40th of DJ Mag17,3's Top 100 DJ. Martin Garrix signs at Scooter Braun Projects in November 2013, management label of Scooter Braun18.

Cooperations and growing success (2014-2015)

At the beginning of 2014, Martin Garrix released an edited version of Bassjackers' Crackin and shortly after Helicopter in collaboration with Firebeatz. He ranks number 2 on "Beatport Top 100 charts" for two weeks. The same year, he also released Proxy available as a free download on SoundCloud to thank his fans for "his big year 2013". He also publishes on the Spinnin 'Records label a collaboration with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike named Tremor and a collaboration with Sander van Doorn and DVBBS titled Gold Skies. In June, he participated in the Summer Festival in Antwerp and the following month, he performed at concerts in Rouen in front of 70 000 spectators20 and Tomorrowland, the reference electro festival in Belgium. In total, he will make 140 dates that year.

In the meantime on July 7, 2014, he released an edited version of DubVision's Backlash. The next day, Martin Garrix releases his first EP, titled Gold Skies EP, first available only in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Martin Garrix markets the single Turn Up the Speakers on August 25 in collaboration with Afrojack. The title remains number 1 on Beatport for a few days. Mid-September, Martin Garrix unveils, before its official release, a version of its new title Virus (How About Now) in collaboration with MOTi. The song finally released on October 13 on Spinnin 'Records22. This track exceeds two million views on YouTube and Soundcloud, even before the official release. Martin Garrix then climbed to 4th place in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJ, gaining 36 seats in one year; in this same magazine, Florian Picasso will speak later of a "dazzling success" to summarize the career of Martin Garrix.

In early 2015, Danny Howard played on British radio station BBC Radio 1, the premiere of Forbidden Voices, Martin Garrix's new single, available for free download on his official website to thank his ten million fans on Facebook. The title comes out on February 6, 2015. The same day, it also changes its official website and logo. In March, he announced on social networks his new single Do not Look Down, in collaboration with Usher. The title is available March 17 with a lyrics. At the end of the month, at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, he presents new tracks, including collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Matisse & Sadko, Tiësto, David Guetta, Avicii and Hardwell25. The Only Way Is Up comes out in early May, in collaboration with Tiësto on the label of this one, Musical Freedom. A few weeks later, Avicii publishes a lyrics version of the title Waiting for Love, co-produced by Martin Garrix. At the end of June, Martin Garrix unveils an excerpt of his new Dragon title in collaboration with Matisse & Sadko, who finally released at the beginning of the following month at Spinnin 'Records. At the same time, he announces, with the video clip, that his title Break Through the Silence, always in collaboration with Matisse & Sadko, will arrive a week later.

He remixed the title Can not Feel My Face of The Weeknd, released late August26. In the process, he announces that he leaves Spinnin 'Records and MusicAllStars. The label had signed him during adolescence, without imagining that he would become such a star. The departure from Spinnin 'remains "painful" 13, but also heated on the subject of the rights to be returned to each protagonist; a middle ground is finally found. Meanwhile, a Forbes magazine study ranks him in his list of "DJ's millionaires" joining David Guetta or Calvin Harris.

On October 16, 2015, at the presentation of the Top 100 DJ Mag awards at the Amsterdam Dance Event, he entered the podium of the three most popular disc jockeys on the planet by placing 3rd. Two weeks later, he released his single Poison, played in the introduction of his set at the Amsterdam Dance Event, and available for free download. On November 19, he announced the creation of his own label in the Dutch TV show Dino.

Stmpd Rcrds and new album (since 2016)

He announced in February 2016 the release of a studio album for autumn32, finally delayed. In early March, he publishes a teaser on Twitter of his title Now That I've Found You featuring John and Michel to be published a week later on his new label, Stmpd Rcrds (en). The following month, at the Miami Ultra, he presents ten new tracks, including collaborations with Ed Sheeran, already played in 2015, Dyro, Julian Jordan, Jay Hardway, Bebe Rexha, or Mike Shinoda. While his residency for the summer at Ushuaïa, entitled "Multiply", is renewed in April35, at the end of the following month, Martin Garrix markets on its label the new title Lions In the Wild, made with the British duo Third Party. In parallel, he produces more hip-hop titles under the pseudo Area21 alongside Maejor Ali.

A new title in collaboration with Bebe Rexha, In the Name of Love, is released on its label at the end of July 2016; this one is quickly signed by Sony Music. At the end of October at the Amsterdam Dance Eventn, he moved from third place to first place in the DJ Mag rankings; at twenty, after a career of only three years, he became the youngest disc jockey to reach this position. The magazine disc jockeys then speaks of "immeasurable success", also highlighting the musical evolution of the artist's productions. Also at the Amsterdam Dance Event, he unveiled a week-long title for his third EP, entitled Seven; each extract remains downloadable for free while it totals around this time more than ten million singles sold during his career.

Beyond his first place in the ranking of DJ Mag, his notoriety on all of that year is also reflected by his audience on various social networks, reaching or exceeding several records, with a significant "fan base" in number, n 3. But also, his closing presence of the biggest electronic music festivals such as the Ultra Music of Miami, the fact of performing first part on some dates of the tour of Justin Bieber, n 4 or his residence at Ushuaia, for three years, show its success.
