Armin van Buuren (Pronunciation in Dutch: / ɑrmɪn vɑn byːrə (n) / n. December 25, 1976) is a trance music producer. Armin van Buuren is an important name on the trance scene, both as a DJ and as a producer. His interest in electronic music has emerged since childhood, and he has been in possession of the first sampler since the age of 14. His first hit was Blue fear, released in 1995 under Cyber Records. Since then, there has been a whole series of productions that have penetrated international musical charts. In addition, he collaborated with Tiësto for the Major League and Alibi projects and produced Exhale with Ferry Corsten. Since 2000, Armin has released the series of AVB compilations that have enjoyed success with the public. A year later, the Dutch began his own radio show, entitled A State of Trance, during which he made his creations known.

Throughout his career, Armin van Buuren has performed in over 25 countries with Dave Lewis' support. Recently, he presented a nine-hour set for the Dancetheater in The Hague. Among the places where they mix constantly are Passion, Godskitchen, Gatecrasher and Slinky - Great Britain, Glow - Washington and Ibiza.

On November 11, 2006, the artist celebrated a new album titled 10 years at the A'hoy Rotterdam stadium. The reason that made Armin choose this location as the launching ground for the new album was the artist's extraordinary concert there in 2005, Armin Only, a powerful emotional event for all 12,000 participants.

Personal life

Armin van Buuren was born in Leiden, the Netherlands on December 25, 1976, but grew up in Koudekerk aan den Rijn. Van Buuren began composing music at the age of 14. He was inspired by the French music composer Jean-Michel Jarre. Van Buuren graduated from the Stedelijk Gymnasium in Leiden in 1995 and then studied law at Leiden University. He started working as a DJ in the Nexus Club, making several weekly sessions, many of which last over six hours. In 1999 he met Dave Lewis, who facilitated a DJ career in England and the United States. As his musical career began to thrive, he suspended his law studies, which he eventually graduated in 2003.

On September 18, 2009, Van Buuren married Erika van Thiel, with whom he had a nine-year relationship. Their daughter, Fenna, was born in July 2011. Van Buuren announced only a few hours before climbing Tomorrowland on July 27, 2013 that his wife brought a son to the world, Remy.

In 2011, Van Buuren received the title of Orania-Nassau Order Officer (military and civilian order created in 1982) for his music services.

1996-99: Beginning and success

In 1996, Armin pulled EP and Push at Timeless Records. Van Buuren earned his first major success with "Blue Fear", released under the label Cyber Records in 1997. Another piece of commercial success, "Communication", produced by the same record label, became popular in Ibiza, Spain, in the summer of 1999. After signing AM PM Records (AM's record division), this piece entered the UK Singles Chart on the 18th place in 2000.

At the beginning of 1999, Van Buuren launched his own brand, Armind (a trance-focused Dutch brand and whose founder is the interface with the audience), along with United Recordings. The first release, Gig - "One," was a welcome hit. The second song, Touch Me, appeared in the UK under the auspices of the Ministry of Sound Records. The third piece, Gimmick - "Free", appeared under the title R & S Records.

2000-04: A State of Trance and 76

In 2000, Van Buuren began his own compilation series. He has found a balance between progressive house styles and vocal trance. His first compilation album, A State of Trance (not to be confused with his weekly radio show), was sold in 10000 copies and contains remixes by Van Buuren after Moogwai and Viola. Working with Tiësto, two new projects were born: Major League - "Wonder Where You Are?" released at Black Hole Recordings and Alibi - "Eternity" produced by Armind. "Eternity," appearing at Vandit Records, has been successful both in clubs and in charts. Another important collaboration followed: along with Ferry Corsten, Van Buuren recorded a riff entitled "Exhale" for System F, Out of the Blue. Launched as a single, this track won the Gold Disc in less than a month. Under the pseudonym Gaia, he released "4 Elements" at Captivating Sounds, a trademark belonging to Warner Brothers.

His second album, Basic Instinct, included a new song: "Perpetuous Dreamer" - "The Sound of Goodbye". This song entered the Dutch standings in June 2001, in the 26th place. Later in the same year, the track reached the top spot in Hot Dance Music / Club Play. The third album, In Motion, appeared on August 6, 2001. A fourth album, Transparence, followed in 2002. In 2003, he collaborated with artists such as DJ Seth Alan Fannin in the European Dance Revolution, mixing in front of crowds of over 20,000 people in the Netherlands.

In March 2001, Van Buuren began his own radio show at ID & T Radio Station (originally broadcast in Dutch, and later, starting with episode 183, in English). In this two-hour weekly show, titled A State of Trance, he presents the most popular trance songs. His show and the artists he presents are also popularized on his own website.

When ID & T Radio moved to other genres in 2004, Van Buuren moved the A State of Trance show to Fresh FM (The Netherlands) and later to SLAM! FM. It is now a weekly appearance on Radio 538, the market leader between Dutch radias, at DI.FM, an online radio station and XM Satellite Radio, channel 52, in the US and Canada. In 2002, he was a resident DJ at the Glow Club in Washington DC, and mixed with North American cities. He also appeared regularly at the Amnesia Nightclub on the island of Ibiza, the Balearic Archipelago, Spain. In October of the same year, Van Buuren was voted number 5 in the DJ Mag Magazine.

In June 2003, Van Buuren celebrated his 100th episode in A State of Trance in Bloomingdale, Bloemendaal aan Zee, the Netherlands, and released his first studio album, 76, a 76-minute album, divided into 13 parts. In the same year was voted no. 3 in DJ Mag Magazine and retained its position in the next two years (2004, 2005). Also in 2004, Van Buuren remixed the theme of TV 24, in a trance success.

2005-09: Shivers and Imagine

On June 2, 2005, he celebrated the 200th episode of the A State of Trance at Museumplein, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. On August 8, 2005, Van Buuren released his second studio album, Shivers. On this album, Van Buuren worked with artists such as Pakistani-American singer Nadia Ali, English singer Justine Suissa and American trance duo Gabriel & Dresden.

On May 25, 2006, he celebrated, alongside various artists, the 250th A State of Trance episode at Asta Nightclub in The Hague, the Netherlands. Was voted no. 2 for 2006 in DJ Mag Magazine. On May 17, 2007, he celebrated, along with other artists, the 300th A State of Trance episode at Pettelaarse Schans, Den Bosch, the Netherlands.

Eventually, Armin reached No. 1 in the 2007 DJ Mag Magazine.

On January 12, 2008, Van Buuren was awarded the "Buma Cultuur Pop Award", the most prestigious Dutch music award.

On April 17, 2008, Van Buuren released his third studio album, Imagine. It includes collaborations with artists such as Jacqueline Govaert of Krezip. He entered the first place in the Dutch albums list. The second single from this album, In and Out of Love, opposite Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation, inspired a video that was watched 150 million times on YouTube.

After the release of Imagine, Van Buuren worked alongside Benno de Goeij from Rank 1 on solo productions and remixes. On May 1, 2008, he celebrated the 350th episode of the A State of Trance in Noxx, Antwerpen, Belgium. The best DJ was voted again in the 2008 Magazine's Magazine Magazine.

He collaborated with his brother, guitarist Eller van Buuren, at the Together As One festival in Los Angeles, USA on the night of the 2009 New Year, as well as the 2008 studio album Imagine. The concert with his brother was the last event of the world tour Armin Only: Imagine.

To celebrate Episode 400 in the A State of Trance, he performed 3 performances with various artists in the following locations: Club Butan, Wuppertal, Germany, April 16, 2009, AIR nightclub in Birmingham, England on April 17, and Maassilo, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on April 18th.

Also in 2009, Foreign Media Games announced the production of an Armin van Buuren video game: In the Mix, in collaboration with Cloud 9 Music and Van Buuren's company, Armada Music. The game was released on the market on November 12, 2010, exclusively for the Wii console.

He was voted the best DJ of 2009 in the DJ Mag Magazine, for the third consecutive year.

2010-14: Mirage and Intense

On March 3, 2010, Van Buuren was awarded the Golden Harp Award for his musical work and contribution to the development of Dutch music by BUMA / STEMRA at the Buma Harpen 2010 Gala in Hilversum, the Netherlands.

To celebrate Episode 450 from A State of Trance, he has performed alongside other artists at five shows on two continents. The locations were: The Governnment, Toronto, Canada, on April 1, 2010, Roseland Ballroom, New York City, USA, April 2 and 3, Expo Arena, Bratislava, Slovakia, April 9 and Centennial Hall, Wroclaw, April 24.

On June 23, 2010, it was announced that Van Buuren's fourth studio album, Mirage, will be released on September 10. The first single, "Full Focus", was released through the iTunes Store on June 24 at midnight. The song reached the 60th place in the Netherlands. One of the songs on this album that they confirmed was a collaboration with English singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, entitled "Not Giving Up on Love," which appeared as a single on Bextor's fourth studio album, Make a Scene.

On September 12, 2010, Van Buuren launched "A State of Sundays," a new 24-hour weekly broadcast on Sirius XM Radio.

On October 20, 2010, Van Buuren won the award for the most popular international DJ, offered by The Golden Gnomes.

On October 27, 2010, Van Buuren was announced for the fourth consecutive year, the world's best DJ in the DJ Mag.

The 2010 Armin Only: Mirage began in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on November 13, followed by performances in St. Petersburg, Kiev, Buenos Aires, Melbourne, Beirut, Poznań, Moscow and Bratislava.

To celebrate his 10th anniversary and 500th episode of his A State of Trance weekly radio show, Van Buuren has performed five shows on five continents in five consecutive weeks, alongside various artists. The first show took place on 19 March 2011 in Johannesburg, South Africa at the MTN Expo Center. The Miami show was held at the Ultra Music Festival on March 27th. Argentina followed, with the third celebration for ASOT 500, held at GEBA in Buenos Aires. The most important edition took place in Brabanthallen in Den Bosch, the Netherlands. Accompanied by more than 30 DJs around the world, over 30000 people participated in the show. The event has been broadcasted live in more than 30 countries. The final show was held in Sydney on April 16 at the Acer Arena.

On April 30, 2011, Van Buuren was appointed the Orania-Nassau Order Officer (military and civilian order created in 1982) for his services to the Dutch music and economy. In the same year, he received the key of Leiden from the mayor of the city and was voted number 2 in the 2011 Magazine Magazine survey.

To celebrate Episode 550 in the A State of Trance, he sang alongside various artists on two continents for four weeks. The show was called A State of Trance 550: The Invasion. The first event was celebrated at the Ministry of Sound in London on March 1, 2012. On March 7, Moscow hosted the second event at Expocentre. The show in Kiev was held at the International Exhibition Center on March 10th. On March 17, as part of the Beyond Wonderland festival in Los Angeles and on March 25 at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. On March 31, the biggest ASOT 550 show took place in Brabanthallen, Den Bosch, the Netherlands.

On October 19, 2012, Van Buuren was announced, for the fifth time, the best DJ in the world in the Magazine Magazine rankings.

To celebrate Episode 600 in A State of Trance, Van Buuren announced that he will perform alongside other artists around the world at the beginning of 2014. The show was called: A State of Trance 600: Expedition. It was announced that the show will take part in a world tour with stops in Madrid, Mexico City, São Paulo, Minsk, Sofia, Beirut, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, Miami, Guatemala City, New York City and Den Bosch.

On March 2, 2013, Van Buuren announced that his fifth studio album, Intense, is due to appear on May 3, 2013. The first single on this album, "This Is What It Feels Like," with Canadian composer and songwriter Trevor Guthrie, appeared on April 5th. The one-one was a success, making him only the fourth trance artist who has ever received a Grammy Award nomination. The album promotion tour, Armin Only: Intense, was announced on October 17, 2013.

The day of April 30, 2013 brought Queen Beatrix's abdication to the Netherlands, in favor of her son, King Willem-Alexander, who was crowned that day. Van Buuren was the head of the show at the show that followed the king's crowning in Amsterdam. While singing alongside the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxime and their three daughters made an unexpected visit to the stage.

On October 19, 2013, Armin van Buuren ranked No. 2 in the DJ Mag survey.

On January 26, 2014, Armin van Buuren attended the 56th Grammy Awards as a result of his nomination for the single as guest Canadian singer Trevor Guthrie, "This Is What It Feels Like", in the Best Dance Recording category.

2015-present: Embrace

On May 8, 2015, Armin van Buuren took out the first single on his sixth studio album, Embrace, which appeared on the market on October 29, 2015. The single is called "Another You" and invited Mr. Probz.

Three weeks after the release of "Another You", Van Buuren also released a remix of the official theme of Game of Thrones, composer Ramin Djawadi.

On October 16, 2015, Armin van Buuren took out the next single on the Embrace album, called "Strong Ones," alongside Cimo Fränkel. She was followed by a collaboration with Cosmic Gate, "Embargo," launched on October 22, 2015.

To accompany the release of the album, Van Buuren announced the resumption of the Armin Only party.

This edition of the tournament will be called Armin Only: Embrace and will take place during 2016 and 2017. As the tour title suggests, it will be based on the collection of tracks on the new album.
